South Main Street bridge improvement project to start this summer:

Engineering work is complete on a project that will greatly improve pedestrian mobility along South Main Street, south of the downtown business district. The South Main Street Bridge and approaches will be transformed to eliminate the center turn lane, modify the remaining two travel lanes and provide a protected, separated 10’ multi-use pathway along each side of the road. This will provide pedestrian access on each side of Main Street. This project is currently out for public bid and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.

Also starting this summer is the widening of Zionsville Road, a project that will make Zionsville road more cyclist and pedestrian-friendly as well as improve vehicular performance. Zionsville Road will be expanded from two to three lanes when a center turn lane is added between Technology Center Drive and 106th Street. The project also includes a new, 10’ multi-use path on the west side of the road for the entire length of the project, as well as a 10’ multi-use pathway along the east side of the road from Zionsville Cemetery to 106th Street. Construction is expected to begin in June. To minimize cost and construction duration, Zionsville Road will be closed during the summer to through-traffic. Access will be maintained to all local residences and business throughout the project, however, through-traffic will utilize the official signed detour of 96th Street, Michigan Road and 106th Street to circumvent the closure.

I look forward to seeing you around the Village.
